Community Fund Campaign 1 Presentation
We are delighted to inform you that the winner of the Community Fund Campaign 1 was the Poole and District Children’s Cancer Fund, with around 50% of the votes. Neil Weedon attended Poole Hospital to make the presentation to P.D.C.C.F Chair, Dr. Martin Hussey, who had the following to say:
Thank you to the Cherries Trust from the Poole and District Children’s Cancer Fund
The PDCCF was set up as a fund in 1994 following donations from the parents of a patient.
The PDCCF became a registered charity in 1996, set up by a small group of people with the aim of trying to improve the quality of life for children undergoing treatment for cancer at Poole Hospital (Now part of University Hospitals Dorset).
The diagnosis of childhood cancer has a considerable effect not only on the child, but also on the parents, siblings and the extended family of the child.
The PDCCF aims to support these people during the treatment of the child and afterwards, whenever possible.
The PDCCF is run entirely by volunteers and therefore all money raised and donated can be used to support the charity beneficiaries.
- The charity supports in various ways including:
- Arranging trips and outings
- Arranging short breaks for the family
- Providing short term financial help following referral from the hospital team.
- Purchasing specialist medical equipment for use in the home or in hospital.
The above list is not exhaustive.
Over the past few years, like other charities, out income has fallen and we have had to reduce the scope and extent of some of our activities. However, we a still planning a weekend break in Weymouth for 8 families in September 2024. The fantastic donation from the Cherries Trust will help in the funding of the weekend break.
